The short version
- Want a copy first? Download your data from Settings, Account. It is free on every plan.
- Signed in, open Settings, Account and choose Delete account. It happens straight away and cannot be undone.
- If you can no longer sign in, ask us through the contact form and we delete the account for you.
- Your account, marks, study history, templates and everything else tied to the account are deleted.
- Payment records stay with Stripe for tax purposes, only as long as the law requires.
- If you bought a Pro pass: The record of the checkout consent is kept for 6 years as evidence of the purchase terms.
The sections below give the detail.
01Download your data first
Deleting your account removes your marks for good, so download a copy first if you might want them. In the app, open Settings, choose Account, then Download my data. You get a JSON file of everything UniGrade holds about you: marks, study time, notes and friends. It is free on every plan.
02Delete it yourself
In the app, open Settings, choose Account, then Delete account at the bottom. Type DELETE to confirm. Your account and its data are deleted straight away and you are signed out. The same steps work on the website and in the app on your phone.
If you have an older Pro subscription that renews, the app asks you to cancel it in Manage subscription first, so Stripe stops charging you. Pro passes do not renew, so they never hold deletion up, but any Pro time left on one ends with the account. If you bought a pass recently, read the refund policy before you delete.
03If you cannot sign in
If you have forgotten your password but still have the email address, reset your password and then follow the steps above.
If you no longer have the email address, for example because your university closed it after you graduated, ask us to delete your account. The contact form opens with the subject “Delete my account”. Give the email address the account uses and an address we can reply to. A person reads every request, and we may ask you to confirm the account is yours before we delete it, so nobody can delete someone else’s. You can also email support@unigrade.co.uk with the same subject.
04What is deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- Your account
- Your name, email address, password, university, degree target, settings and plan, how you found UniGrade, and your profile photo.
- Your academic data
- Every year, module, assessment, weight, deadline and mark, and your notes.
- Your study history
- Study sessions, streaks and weekly goals, and the record of the days you opened the app.
- Friends, leagues and squads
- Your friendships and squad memberships, and any squad you created, for everyone in it.
- Course templates
- Links you shared stop working at once, and the record of templates you imported goes. Classmates who already imported one of yours keep their own copy of the modules, which never included your marks or your name.
- Notifications and calendar
- Your notifications, push notification sign-ups and your calendar feed link, which stops working.
- Usage records
- Your onboarding steps and the Pro offers you were shown.
- Our copy of your purchases
- The record UniGrade uses to give you each Pro pass you bought, and any Pro time left on it.
05What is kept
A few records are kept after the account is deleted:
- Payment records
- If you bought a Pro pass, Stripe, our payment provider, holds the record of the payment and its receipts. Deleting your account does not delete them: payment records are kept for tax purposes, and only as long as the law requires.
- Support messages
- Messages you sent us through the contact form or by email stay in our support inbox, which is separate from your account. Say in your request if you want those deleted too.
- Checkout consent
- If you bought a Pro pass: The record of the checkout consent is kept for 6 years as evidence of the purchase terms. It holds the email address your receipt went to; the pass you bought; when you ticked the box to start it straight away, and the version of that wording; the country you chose at checkout and the billing and card countries recorded for the payment; when it was flagged for review, if either of those was in the EU; the Stripe checkout reference; and when a failed-payment email or the receipt was sent. It is no longer linked to an account. It is deleted after that.
- Admin access log
- If we ever opened your account to help with a problem, or deleted it for you, the security log entry recording that is kept. Your email address in it is replaced with "deleted account".
- Totals that do not identify you
- Weekly counts, such as how many people signed up, already include you and do not change.
