University of Westminster degree rules

How University of Westminster turns your marks into a degree class: the year weights, the rounding and the rules near a boundary, written out from the published regulations. Then try your own marks below.

Westminster's rules in plain English

These are estimates using the published rules. Your exam board makes the final decision.

  • Level 4 (first year) does not count. Level 5 marks weigh a third and Level 6 marks two thirds. Placement and study abroad credits do not count.
  • Your score uses your best 220 of 240 credits: it is worked out twice, once without your lowest Level 5 module and once without your lowest Level 6 module, and the higher one counts. A dropped 40-credit module still counts as 20 credits.
  • Module marks are not rounded; the final score is rounded to the nearest whole number, so 69.5 becomes 70, a First.
  • There are no borderline zones: the regulations say the calculated result is final.

Year weights by course

CourseEach year, first to last
Three-year honours courses0% / 33.3% / 66.7%
Four-year courses with a placement or study abroad year0% / 33.3% / 0% / 66.7%

Who this does not cover

  • Year 2 is read as Level 5 and the final year as Level 6. Modules taken at another level are not moved.
  • This is the 2025/26 handbook; a 2026/27 edition was not published at the same address when checked.

Source: Handbook of Academic Regulations 2025/26, section 17: Framework for undergraduate taught courses (paragraphs 4.4, 7.3 and 7.9). Checked 22 October 2026. If your programme handbook says something different, it wins.

Your years and modules

Set each year's weight in your final degree, then add its modules with credits and marks.

Average 63% over 120 credits
Average 70% over 120 credits
Your degree average
67.67%

That is a 2:1 on the usual UK boundaries, 2.33 points below a First.

Upper second (2:1)

Year 2 (33.33% of result)
63%
Year 3 (66.67% of result)
70%

Modules without a mark are left out. Westminster rounds the final score to a whole number, so 69.5 counts as a First. This calculator shows the weighted average only; it does not apply Westminster's dropped credits.
